In our previous article, we discussed epigenetics—a scientific field that reveals how both our external and internal environments directly influence our genes.
For a deeper dive into this subject, consider reading 'Why Your Emotions Impact Your Organs' for more detailed insights.
The fundamental concept revealed by epigenetics is that your emotions and thoughts have the power to determine the health of your cells and by extension, your body. That’s a lot of responsibility, isn’t it?
The truth is, and I am not going to lie, that changing your thought patterns and beliefs is complex.
It takes time and a significant amount of internal personal effort to be able to evolve and make long-lasting changes in your subconscious mind, which is precisely where the vast majority of these thought patterns are stored.

However, there are ways of doing it through using your conscious mind.
Actively and consciously deciding to include certain habits into your day-to-day that serve to boost this healthy behavior in yourself, is the first step towards constructing new thoughts and functional patterns in your subconscious mind.
These good, or bad, daily habits, the small decisions you make, and the actions you do almost without realizing every day are what make a difference over the years, constructing a lifestyle that either boosts your health, or just the opposite.
So today I’d like to share with you my top 5 tips that I’ve seen have helped me boost my health and my lifestyle:
Have positive thoughts and emotions: The key to this equation, of thriving in your life, is to have as many positive thoughts and emotions as possible.
That simple and yet that complicated sometimes, right?
What I practice on a daily basis to start the day in a good state of mind is to meditate in the morning while doing breathing exercises to calm my mind and focus on high vibrational frequency emotions such as gratitude, harmony, peace, and love.
Then do a brief journaling exercise, writing down 3 things I’m grateful for and a positive intention for the day.
Do physical exercise on a daily basis: As we discussed on How Movement Can Change Your Mental State, the amazing thing about physical exercise is that it also helps you achieve a change of mentality and perspective very quickly, by physically moving your body and activating your energy flow.
So activities like running, swimming, walking, jumping, and any kind of activity that requires actively moving the body help you change your state of mind and thoughts fairly automatically, as you leverage all these positive chemical reactions that the body generates when feeling itself in motion, to help change your state of mind.
In fact, on those occasions when you feel stressed or overwhelmed, this is normally because you have too much blocked energy in your head.
But if you decide to move your body at these times, the physical movement itself will move the energy from your head to the different parts of the body, and it’ll help decrease the accumulated pressure in your mind.
Healthy eating: Eating fresh, organic, seasonal, and local fruit and vegetables, avoiding processed foods as much as possible, and drinking daily half your body weight in water are the key elements to a nutritional and healthy diet.
Rest: Rest is essential for good physical health.
Getting eight hours of sleep, limiting or eliminating your intake of caffeine, and slotting in a few moments of rest at least two times a day, even if it is just relaxing in a chair with your eyes closed and breathing for 5 or 10 minutes, or having a 10-to-15-minute nap midday, is ideal for maintaining your mind calm and your body energized until the end of the day.
Do more of what you love: Remembering your deepest desires and dreams is the most important task each one of us will do in this lifetime, and it is the path to a fulfilling and purposeful life….
And, the easiest way to start on this path of constant discovery is to begin, by becoming aware of what things give you joy when you are doing them and to do more of them.
To start finding that thing or things that make you feel really good inside, you can start by giving yourself a few minutes to just yourself in your day-to-day.
Maybe getting up 30 minutes earlier every morning and having a little bit of “ME” time, reading your favorite book or just sitting on the couch and watching the sunrise while enjoying a cup of your favorite tea., or maybe deciding to park the car further away from work to walk 10 minutes every morning enjoying the morning breeze, etcetera.
If you don’t have clarity on how to find those small things that bring you happiness… just start with these small actions I just described and slowly you’ll see how you start finding answers to the things that bring you joy.
