How to Redefine Success and Embrace Lifelong Happiness

In our latest articles, we have delved deeply into the journey toward discovering one's purpose. This exploration leads us to today's topic: the intricate link between pursuing our purpose and our perceptions of happiness and success.

So, let’s start with happiness.

In line with everything we’ve been discussing until now. when you are aligned with your purpose this generates a profound internal feeling of well-being, internal pleasure, and calm, which we recognize as happiness.

It is not achieving a highly desirable goal or objective but rather comes from inside each one of us and is unchangeable, no matter what happens.

It is the fuel, the energy, that helps you progress in life from an internal place of harmony that does not tremble even when there are rough spots along the path.

Happiness is the direct result of living your purpose, of living your life according to your own principles and values.

A thousand things might go wrong while on this path, problems, disappointments, moments of absolute frustration, and so on.

However, if you are aware that you are living the life you have always wanted, guided by your inner calling—or at least are on the path toward it—this profound sensation of happiness will be what propels you forward.

This happiness motivates you to view problems as challenges to be overcome, opportunities to constantly learn and evolve.

In today's capitalist society, mass consumption and competitiveness push us to seek happiness outside ourselves. We chase after material objects and fleeting gratifying experiences.
Leading to a life that is so exhausting it constantly disconnects us from our true selves.

It is the disconnection between our physical life and what our soul needs to fulfill its potential that generates this inner imbalance.

This imbalance mistakenly leads us to seek what will bring us happiness outside ourselves, whether it be a new car, trousers you saw in a shop window, holidays in the Maldives, or having the best house.

Whatever it is, it forms a vicious and endless circle, destined to repeat time and time again. This cycle generates a false sense of happiness, which in reality is short-term pleasure, soon to become a void that needs to be filled yet again.

Nothing can make you happy in this state of internal imbalance, because material items and physical experiences are ephemeral and simply give you a false illusion of happiness that lasts for a very short period only to fade and disappear, once again leaving this internal void that only your purpose can inhabit.

Long-lasting happiness occurs when you enjoy each one of the things that you do in life, and by doing so you help others.

Howard Thurman once advised on the pursuit of happiness: "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

From this perspective,
when you are really tapping into the thing that brings you internal pleasure and awakens your passion.

You become full of happiness, so much so that you become a light and a guide for others, helping inspire others to do the same with their lives.

Where the meaning of life is really found, through connecting to the greatness of one’s self and expressing it.

The path towards this personal realization, which comes from spending every day doing what makes you feel alive and joyful, you can find by performing the constant exercise of asking yourself these questions and answering them from your heart:

  • What experiences do I want to have in my life?

  • How do I want to grow?

  • How do I want to contribute to the world?

It is also important to redefine the term success because many people think that just by reaching happiness one achieves success in what they are doing, whether this is at a professional or personal level.

Social standards for classifying success often include having a nice home, a well-paid job, forming a family, appearing on television, becoming an influencer, selling millions of copies of a book, traveling the world, and creating large companies.

However, success goes beyond these social conventions, it is something much deeper and is directly tied to living and being the expression of your purpose in life.

A really successful person is whoever is capable of living their life according to their principles and values, according to their unique way of seeing the world and expressing themselves in it.

To others, this individual may not embody success due to their modest living conditions, such as residing in a small apartment, earning a modest income from teaching art classes, or being a parent who has chosen to leave the workforce to raise children full-time.

However, if these individuals feel that they are pursuing their purpose by consciously choosing this path and living in alignment with their principles, then this fulfillment is all they need to consider themselves successful and to experience true happiness.

Happiness and success are directly tied to being able to realize a particular vision of life that each one of us has, and as such, there are no standards or rules to follow.

In the same way that each one of us is totally unique and we came here with specific natural talents to express our potential and help humanity evolve, the definition of happiness and success is equally broad and varied.

The only constant is being faithful to that inner voice that is itching to reveal to you, day after day, what your own and unique definition of happiness and success truly is.

But the real work is precisely here because only you can reach this definition, by following the path and evolving with it, nobody else in the world can give it to you.
