As a society, we have become obsessed with outcomes, so much so that our patience for any kind of process has become almost non-existent.
Don’t get me wrong…
I DO believe there’s a lot of power in being goal driven and looking for shortcuts whenever possible.
Personally, I’m very goal driven and I always try to find the most effective way to do things to shorten the process. That is what has made me able to advance and get things done in my life and my career.
BUT here’s the thing..
When you focus too much on the outcome and the specific timeframe for a goal to be achieved, you are more likely to end up feeling frustrated when you see the set timeframe approaching and you are still far behind.
I’ve been there a thousand times!
And the result of this is feeling stuck, frustrated, and having lack self-confidence.
Essentially this pattern of being very focused on the timeline robs us of the chance to feel like we can TRUST OURSELVES to follow through with promises and commitments we make to ourselves.
So lately, I ask myself this question when setting goals:
What if I could approach a goal fixed on the outcome but at the same time be flexible with the timeline?
And what I’ve found as a result of finding a way to not become hyper-focused on the goal to be achieved, is that the KEY is…
I know this is not something new!
And still… has huge power in it.
Because, when you are able to change your focus to the process… MAGIC HAPPENS!, because all the sudden it doesn’t really matter about that final milestone anymore…
BUT rather WHO YOU ARE BECOMING IN THE PROCESS.
